This chugger is made to get noticed. The cupped head catches water, pops, and leaves a smoke trail, while the sparkle skirt breathes and flashes behind it like a fleeing baitfish.

In clear water the solid colors look like a small tuna, flying fish, or baitfish; in stained water the glitter colors give the lure a flash that pelagics can lock onto. The white eye adds a target point when a fish comes up behind the spread.

Use it as a standalone trolling lure or slide it over a rigged ballyhoo. Chuggers are easy to place in a spread because they usually run true in mixed seas and don’t need a perfect slant-face angle to work. Pull it on a flat line in the prop wash, on a short rigger, or as the hook bait behind a daisy chain or dredge.

How to fish it

  • Troll around 6–9 knots for mahi, tuna, and sailfish
  • Rig with a single trolling hook or a 1- or 2-hook setup to match lure size
  • Fish naked for a clean swimming action, or over ballyhoo for scent and extra profile
  • Keep it on the surface so the cup can chug — if it tracks too deep, lighten the leader or move it farther back
